Amazon.de: The Gifted Adult: A Revolutionary Guide for Liberating Everyday Genius(tm): English Books

Das Buch soll gut sein:

Rezensionen From Publishers Weekly Jacobsen's concept of a new kind of intelligence, which she dubs Evolutionary Intelligence, is sure to attract attentionand perhaps controversy. She estimates that 20 million Americans are"gifted adults" with an amalgam of intellectual abilities andpersonality and character traits that she has found to indicate highpotential. Statistically, many gifted adults are baby boomers (a notionthat is likely to appeal to them). The Minnesota psychologist hasdevised a broad self-assessment test, based in part on Howard Gardner'sfamous work on "multiple intelligences" and in part on her owndefinition of the qualities that she identifies in these innovators andproblem-solvers: creative thinking, enthusiasm, playfulness, intuition, curiosity, humor, independence, multiple talents and a sense ofjustice. Jacobsen's goal is to help the gifted hone their abilities andcope with the "truths" of being gifted: being different, sometimesbeing misunderstood, needing patience to fulfill one's life mission, the support of mentors and peers and spiritual guidance. Although hergood intentions are blurred by her elitism and her sometimescomplicated scheme, she provides useful advice about framing responsesto common criticisms, such as of perfectionism and sensitivity; aboutovercoming blocks to development; about skillful decision-making andachieving balance. 5 von 5 sternen Very helpful , 19. Mai 2000 Rezensentin/Rezensent: Rezensentin/Rezensent aus Kansas Just wanted to say "ditto" to the previous reviews. It was bothfrightening and wonderful to finally hear someone say that I wasn'tstrange, or weird, or just plain silly for being me. The strong desireto truly experience life, the insatiable curiosity, the passion forexcellence, and the constant emphasis on spiritual and emotionalgrowth, are all apart of what makes me, me. AND THAT'S OK! There is areason why I am the way I am, and I no longer have to shut down andconform to some arbitrary standard of normality. This book ispractical, informative, and truly "liberating." --Dieser Text bezieht sich auf eine vergriffene oder nicht verfügbare Ausgabe dieses Titels. .

5 von 5 sternen ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL BOOK! , 19. März 2000 Rezensentin/Rezensent: gree aus California I got this book right after readingGifted Grownups (also a great book), and I was actually a bit dubiousabout whether it could possibly live up to the statement on the cover(A Revolutionary Guide for Identifying and Mastering Your ExceptionalGifts). It does! It has far exceeded any and all expectations. Thisbook is wonderful in terms of addressing the psychological andpersonality issues related to giftedness. Plus there's an extremelyenlightening profile that really helped me see my personality, strengths (and weaknesses), and giftedness clearly. To find out that somany of the things that have been termed "wrong" about me are actuallywhat's right (giftedness) has been so freeing - and such a relief! Itis a guidebook and resource that is absolutely invaluable for everygifted adult. If I could give this book more than 5 stars, I would! --Dieser Text bezieht sich auf eine vergriffene oder nicht verfügbare Ausgabe dieses Titels. .

4 von 5 sternen Everyday Genius by any other name... , 28. Februar 2000 Rezensentin/Rezensent: Rezensentin/Rezensent aus San Francisco Dr. Jacobsen is onto something, butthen so are a lot of other researchers of different parts of theelephant, and I look forward to the day when they all know and shareexactly what they are measuring in an integral science of evolutionarypsychology. There is Howard Gardner, of course, much of whose work onvarious intelligences Dr. Jacobsen's theories are based on. There isthe Freudian analyst Clifford Anderson, who describes the emergingevolutionary function and age of what he calls intuition in his bookThe Stages of Life. There is the exceptionally impeccable andindispensable horizontal and vertical work of Don Riso and Russ Hudson(and others and others before them) correlating enneagram types withthe DSM and MBTI. There is Elaine Aaron and her research with HighlySensitive People (see the book). There are the better and lesspretentious Jungian analysts who write of the effects of contacting theSelf. There are the Decade of the Brain researchers who tell us highserotonin levels reign supreme in human evolution. There is GeorgFeuerstein's translation of Jean Gebser's model of evolutionaryconsciousness (Structures of Consciousness: The Genius of Jean Gebser). There is, not to mention, Gurdjieff. And then there is the mother ofthem all, Ken Wilber, who has been mapping the micro- and macrocosm ofthe evolution of the human condition since he was 23, most concisely inA Brief History of Everything and Transformations of Consciousness, andwho has recently joined forces with the colleagues of Clare Graves tointegrate Spiral Dynamics (see the book) into his maps. That much said, this is a very comforting and supportive book -- that does actuallybring laughter and tears of relief and recognition. It was written forthe general public but aimed at those of us who know something is verydifferent about us -- as we struggle to claim and live thosedifferences with integrity and grace in a childlike world too oftensuspicious and sabotaging of Everyday Genius. But, then, "crucifixion"is an archetypal part of the unfolding Everyday Genius story.... ;) --Dieser Text bezieht sich auf eine vergriffene oder nicht verfügbare Ausgabe dieses Titels. .

Murray, Jr aus The University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida I found this book to be mostliberating. Often, I would say to myself as I read the paragraphswritten by Dr. Jacobsen's clients, "That's me! " For too long I wentthrough life wondering "what's wrong with me?" Wondering why people hadsuch profound difficulty in understanding my profundity. Now, I realizethat there isn't anything that is "wrong" with me...it's that I simplydeveloped in a way that allows me to utilize most efficiently the giftsthat the good Lord gave me. Moreover, as a Marriage and Familytherapist, I will use the knowledge gained from this book to look outfor other geniuses who grace me with their genius. I will let clientsknow that they are not crazy because they are "scattered brained" orthat because they think "too deeply" on subjects. They are simply thefrontierpersons leading the rest of us into the next phase of humandevelopment. Let's face it, someone has to start the journey. Someonehas to begin the evolutionary movement that eventually takes us to ahigher, more complex state of existance--I'm so glad that there are 20million of them! --Dieser Text bezieht sich auf eine vergriffene oder nicht verfügbare Ausgabe dieses Titels. .
